Colour, Creativity and the Joy of Becoming Absorbed in Art
For Daphne Thompson, painting has long been a place of calm, creativity and quiet focus.
Working primarily in acrylic and pastels, Daphne creates artworks that combine realism with vibrant colour, producing pieces that feel both detailed and expressive. Whether working on commissions or preparing for exhibitions, she approaches each artwork as an opportunity to become fully immersed in the creative process.
Daphne’s artistic journey began in her teenage years after her father recognised her natural ability and encouraged her to continue developing it. That early support sparked a lifelong connection to art that has remained an important part of her life ever since.
Based in Burpengary East, Daphne has exhibited through the local Gallery and completed a range of commissioned works over the years. Her artwork often evolves naturally as she paints, guided as much by enjoyment of the process as the finished outcome itself.
Like many creatives, Daphne values the way art allows everyday concerns to fall away for a while. Painting becomes a space to slow down, focus on detail, and explore ideas freely through colour and composition.
Alongside painting, Daphne also enjoys pyrography, wood carving and faceting, reflecting her broad creative interests and love of hands-on artistic work.
Currently, she is continuing to prepare new pieces for upcoming exhibitions, including the Guild’s Members’ Exhibition, while encouraging others to simply pick up a brush and give creativity a try
